Orange Vanilla Coca Cola

Hey everyone! I'm Carl and I'm coming at you live from the Crap Shack! Today we're looking at the new Coca Cola flavor that came out recently - Orange Vanilla! *Air horn sounds like in 90s rap videos*

As the picture shows, this stuff comes in both regular Coke and Coke Zero as well. I've only got to try to regular Coke flavor as that's all I can find! I really want to try the Zero version as I really like Coke Zero and prefer it to regular Coke.

If I can find the Coke Zero version somewhere in the wild I'll try it and update this review! I'm sure all of you out there in the internet land can hardly wait!

What started this whole thing

So I had no idea this new flavor was a thing... I was driving to work one morning last week and kept seeing this bright colored billboard off to the side of the interstate. I didn't pay much attention to it but of course on a subconscious level my mind had read and processed it and filed it away while I continued driving and laughing like a dumbass at the podcast I was listening to.

I know this to be fact because hours later at work I was doing something and, out of nowhere, went "Was that orange vanilla coke?! That sounds amazing!" Then me being me... completely forgot about it until I saw the billboard again the next day. It was that fateful day that I began my search...

Let me tell you, this shit was no easy track! I looked at every gas station I could find! I eventually found it at a Shell near my house as a kind of "well if they don't have it I guess I'll have to check Wally World!" type of stop. Well they totally had it but only the regular flavor and no Zero flavor.

This was Friday morning on my way to work so I had ample time to try it throughout the day.

So let me mention again... I'm not the biggest fan of regular Coke. My blood is basically artificial sweetener at this point as I only drink the finest diet sodas... aka Diet Mountain Dew and its more economical cousin, Diet Mountain Lightning. And since I couldn't find this in the Zero variety I bit the bullet and got the regular!

The first sip was the super-cold-right-out-of-the-cooler-as-soon-as-I-got-back-in-the-car one and it hit me pretty hard. You know that initial kick Dr Pepper gives you til you've had a few sips and got used to it? It was like that but Orange-y and Vanilla-y.

That's not to say it was bad... It was just all at once. The next few sips were easier and I continued to sip on it the rest of the day.

Another thing to note about me is: I'm not a "I'm gonna drink all this non stop til its gone" type of person. I'll milk a 20oz literally all day and still not finish it. I have a Big Red bottle on my desk right now that's at least a week old... And I can pretty much guarantee that I'll take a pull off it at least once today.

A lot of people are like "omfg dude that's gross... who wants to drink warm coke". Well I don't actively seek it out but I also don't immediately chuck one if its not at prime drinking temp with little drips of condensation running down the outside like some kinda fuckin commercial either!

So I tasted this new flavor over the course of several hours, almost 100% of the time was with a completely clean palette.. pallet? Which one is which when its your mouth?

One thing I noticed every time I tasted it, and it didn't change regardless of how much I drank or the temperature of it, the orange was really mild and the vanilla was a little strong. And it was obvious from the very first taste that it was that "artificial vanilla" flavor that's in almost anything like this. 

The same flavor you get at Sonic in their drinks and the same flavor you get at fountains with those options at places like Thorntons. The only vanilla flavor additive I've found that didn't have that taste is the fancy "Pick your own mixes" touch screen machines they have at a lot of fast food places now.

Speaking of Sonic... Before I found the bottle at Shell on Friday I went to Sonic for supper and decided to get a little wild and crazy and get them to make me some Orange Vanilla Coke Zero and it was pretty damn awesome. Would recommend but I always like to get what they call "EZ vanilla" I think its like half a shot vs a full one. Again "artificial vanilla" flavor so its kinda overpowering if its too much.

So lets rate this abomination!

Pretty middle of the road! It's not bad but I probably wont go out of my way to get another bottle, unless I can find the Zero version that I really want to try. Like I said, the orange comes across a little too mild and the vanilla a little too strong for me. I feel like its basically Vanilla Coke they added a splash of orange to and decided to call a huge new flavor.

Maybe a better name would have been Vanilla Coke w/Orange! But I'm just some guy that reviews crap from his shed.
